Virtual developers conference set for success

Apple, an American multinational technology company, will host its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC20) virtually on the Apple Developer app and website free to all developers for the first time from 22 to 26 June. The event now in its 31st year is an opportunity for millions of innovative developers worldwide to get early access to the future of Apple devices and learn from their engineers working to build app experiences enriching the lives of individuals around the globe. Phil Schiller, senior vice president of worldwide marketing at Apple, says WWDC20 will be their biggest conference yet, bringing together their global developer community. He says the community of more than 23 million will come together in an unprecedented way for a week in June to learn about the future of Apple platforms.

“We can’t wait to meet online for the conference with the global developer community and share with them the new tools we’ve been working on to help them create even more incredible apps and services. We look forward to sharing more details about WWDC20 with everyone as we get closer to this exciting event,” says Schiller. The event will include demonstrations of the updated versions of the macOS, iOS, tvOS, watchOS and iPadOS operating systems. You will get teasers of the new features that will soon be added to our iPhones, iPads, Macs and other Apple products and there may also be presentations from third-party developer partners talking about how they have updated their software to work with the new platforms. Craig Federighi, senior vice president of software engineering at Apple, says students are an integral part of the Apple developer community and last year WWDC had attendance from more than 350 student developers spanning 37 different countries. He says they want to recognize and celebrate creative contributions of young developers from around the world and have been excited to see the next generation of innovative thinkers turn ideas into a reality through the Swift Student Challenge. Swift Playgrounds is an app for iPad and Mac that makes learning the Swift programming language interactive and fun and the Swift Student Challenge was an opportunity for student developers to showcase their love of coding by creating an interactive three-minute scene using the app. Student developers from across the world submitted their projects to the Swift Student Challenge from 5 to 17 May. Traditionally WWDC is a paid event for most attendees after submitting for tickets through a lottery system so with the event being free this year, developers won’t want to miss out. The conference program information including keynote and Platforms State of the Union details, as well as session and lab schedules will be shared on the Apple Developer app in June so you are encouraged to download the app. Information will also be made available on the Apple Developer website and by email.
