Angelina Jolie, special envoy of the United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Refugees, urges the UN Security Council to address sexual violence in conflict on 17 July. She says sexual gender-based violence receives less than 1% of UN humanitarian assistance and asks the council to consider how many lives could be saved if they simply doubled that percentage.
“Resolution 2467 adopted last year was the first to put survivors and their needs and their rights at the center of all actions, but that resolutions, if not implemented, are words on paper and just that,” she says. PHOTO & VIDEO: UNifeed
